VMware Cloud on AWS: The Bridge to the Hybrid Cloud

VMware Cloud on AWS (or VMC on AWS for short ) is currently the easiest and fastest way to master the path to the cloud. The solution forms a bridge between the local data center and the cloud and enables a hybrid infrastructure that can be efficiently managed. vSphere-based environments can be moved seamlessly between the cloud and on-premises as required.

Hybrid Cloud for a Smooth Transition

There are many obstacles on the way to the cloud and it can take IT employees a long time to familiarize themselves with the new world. Migration and security are usually more complex than expected as applications and security guidelines usually cannot be transferred one-to-one to the public cloud. This slows down projects and drives up costs. A hybrid solution with VMware Cloud on AWS does not generally remove these obstacles, but makes them smaller and more manageable. It enables seamless migration of VMware-based workloads and consistent administration in both worlds.

With the right technologies, it is also possible to outsource workloads today, bring them back tomorrow, or move them to another cloud. In addition to a combination of public and private clouds, the trend towards the so-called multi-cloud also includes the use of various providers such as AWS or Microsoft Azure in conjunction with their own data centers. According to the modular principle, you can act independently of individual providers and benefit from various offers. IDC anticipates that by the end of 2020, more than 90 percent of global organizations will have a multi-cloud strategy.

VMware Cloud Creates Flexibility for Workloads

VMware has recognized the importance of a hybrid and future-proof deployment for customers and provides VMware Cloud Services as a solution. It creates a common operating environment for all services, regardless of whether they run on-premises, in the private cloud or in the public cloud. This means that vSphere-based environments can be moved one-to-one between the various infrastructures which means that applications do not have to be adapted before migrating to the cloud. The administration of the virtual machines is carried out in the same way everywhere with the usual VMware management tools, so that no training is required. Existing security guidelines can be transferred to the cloud with the applications and are retained there.

With VMware Cloud on AWS, you can master the path to the cloud faster and move your workloads flexibly between the AWS cloud and on-premises. Specifically, you benefit from these advantages:

Since VMware works with all major cloud providers, it can be assumed that in a few years the VMware Cloud will be dovetailed in a similar way with Azure, IBM, GCP, Oracle and Alibaba. Services for Azure started in May 2019, but are currently only available in the US. Europe should soon follow. In the long term, the VMware Cloud is therefore well suited to implementing a multi-cloud strategy.
