SoftwareOne supports Barton Peveril Sixth Form College in strengthening digital learning and AI strategy on Google Cloud

The migration provides a secure, scalable foundation for student services and future AI innovation

Barton Peveril Sixth Form College has worked with SoftwareOne to migrate its on‑premises infrastructure to Google Cloud and brought to life their AI strategy. The college wanted a secure and scalable environment that aligned with its use of Google Workspace and Google Classroom, and that could better support digital services for students and staff.

With more than 5,000 students and rising on‑premises licensing costs, the college explored options to improve resilience and efficiency. SoftwareOne was selected after early conversations showed a clear partnership approach and an understanding of the college’s priorities.

For Vice Principal Chris Loveday, the value of the partnership was clear from the beginning.

“We were looking for a partnership and a collaboration, and that was what SoftwareOne was offering,” Loveday said. “Their open and transparent communication, and their willingness to understand our needs, really set them apart.”

The migration was supported through the Open Clouds for Research Environments (OCRE) framework. With license renewals approaching, the project had a nine‑month timeline. Non‑critical systems were moved during term time, while essential services were transitioned over the summer period. The full environment became operational ahead of schedule and without disruption.

The move to Google Cloud has also enabled the college to advance its AI initiatives. Barton Buddy, a student support agent, and Barton AI, a tool for staff, now run within a unified and secure ecosystem that supports further development. The migration has supported the college’s expectations for a modern and unified environment following their cloud-first approach.

SoftwareOne instilled enormous confidence,” Loveday said. “They had the technical capabilities to do the work quickly and well. That was the promise they made, and that was absolutely what they delivered.”

The college has also signed a five-year managed services agreement with SoftwareOne. This allows internal teams to focus on student needs during critical periods, while ensuring the availability and reliability of core systems.

Since the migration, Barton Peveril has reported greater efficiency, stronger cost control, improved security and a more sustainable digital environment. The partnership supports ongoing plans for data and analytics, including future work with Google Cloud’s BigQuery and Looker.

“Barton Peveril has a clear vision for a secure and scalable digital foundation that supports both students and staff,” said Scott Cattaneo, Public Sector & Defense Sales Director at SoftwareOne. “We worked closely with their teams to understand what mattered most and to deliver a migration path they could trust. We are pleased to support their next steps in data and AI as they continue to strengthen their digital services for the college community.”
