SoftwareOne helps Posti save on AWS and Azure costs with savings potential of over 10%
Posti Group Suomi Oy wanted to review the efficiency and cost savings potential of the management of its AWS and Azure environments. Posti's Head of Development Marko Pirkonen chose SoftwareOne (formerly Crayon) as his partner for the project because he already had experience of the high level of expertise of SoftwareOne's experts.
Posti Group Corporation is one of the leading delivery and logistics companies in Finland, Sweden and the Baltics, offering a wide range of postal, logistics, freight and e-commerce services.
"We wanted a situation assessment of whether both our AWS and Azure environments are cost-effective and meet compliance requirements. I knew that SoftwareOne's services were of high quality and the reports were practical, so choosing a partner for this project was easy to make.
Posti did not need to provide data for analysis, but SoftwareOne's consultants used their tools to collect the necessary data from the IT environment and interview Posti's representatives.
The mapping of Azure and AWS environments was carried out with Cloud Economics as separate projects, but both projects focused on cost transparency, optimization possibilities and compliance assurance. The results were reviewed in a joint workshop, after which Posti received detailed and practical reports on the findings and recommended actions.
Both projects went according to plan. SoftwareOne's technical consultants discussed with our own technical experts, which allowed us to delve deeply into the challenges raised in the analysis and continue the discussion even after the demolition event, Pirkonen continues.

The savings potential of the AWS environment is over 10% and that of the Azure environment is 7%
Posti's AWS environment is technically complex, so we wanted to ensure cost transparency. The survey revealed a savings opportunity corresponding to one month's consumption, so Marko Pirkonen considers the result significant.
"In AWS costs, our savings potential is just over 10%, half of which can be achieved in the short term. I am very pleased with the findings and results, because in addition to cost optimisation, we received information about maturity and practices, processes and automations that need improvement," comments Pirkonen.
In the Azure environment, the corresponding savings potential is 7%. According to Pirkonen, savings of about 5% can also be achieved in Azure in the short term. It is a good idea to monitor and optimize the costs of cloud environments at regular intervals.
Next steps
