"The partnership between SoftwareOne (formerly Crayon) and LapIT is unique, in this cooperation one plus one is much more than two," praises Jari Rekilä, Head of Business Solutions at LapIT Oy.

The customer relationship has quickly developed into an ironclad partnership. Where did the collaboration begin? A few years ago, LapIT was looking for a suitable partner to support the development and maintenance of Microsoft environments.

"The criteria for choosing a partner were strict, as we were looking for a partner who could flexibly, cost-effectively and with the best expertise support LapIT's own technical expertise," says Rekilä. The cooperation proposals of many service providers were inappropriate for them, either because of costs or because of an inflexible operating model. Good chemistry with SoftwareOne was established early, and Rekilä and his team were also impressed by their extensive expertise in Microsoft technologies.

After the cooperation began, SoftwareOne analyzed LapIT's Microsoft environment with the M365 Health Check service, which made it natural to expand the partnership to the development and maintenance of IT environments managed by LapIT.

The successful Microsoft migration of the wellbeing services county of Lapland was the result of seamless cooperation

LapIT planned and implemented the migration project of Lapland county's wellbeing services (M365 Security, AD, endpoint management and Azure) on a fast schedule towards the end of 2022. SoftwareOne was involved in planning and implementing the demanding transition project.

Rekilä continues: "SoftwareOne's experts worked seamlessly alongside our own experts. They have IDs for our systems, so we were able to smoothly share tasks with each other. Without this cooperation, we would not have had time to carry out the migration of municipalities and cities in the northern region to the new wellbeing services county on our own. Now the migration was successfully completed within the given schedule with SoftwareOne's support."

A lot is needed from both parties to succeed in a project and build genuine cooperation – it is the sum of teamwork. Mutual trust comes from openness, competence and people. The experts of both companies know each other and use the same language. When the customer's IT documentation is in Finnish, it is important that everyone involved in the project has a good command of Finnish.

What makes the partnership unique is not only solid mutual trust and effective communication, but also a flexible operating model and agreement. The agreement enables LapIT to use SoftwareOne's resources as needed, without monthly fixed hours and costs. Typical situations where extra hands are needed include sick leave for one's own personnel, various change situations and IT environment development projects.

Rekilä brings up one more important aspect: "With the current operating model, we do not always need to recruit our own employees immediately, but we can utilise Finland's best experts whenever we need additional help. And we don't have to constantly onboard new experts, as SoftwareOne's IT consultants know us and our systems and participate in internal teams meetings like our own staff. Cooperation is always agile according to our needs."

In addition to the wellbeing services county of Lapland, LapIT and SoftwareOne jointly develop and maintain the IT environments of public sector organisations in northern Finland.
