About the Customer

Suva (Schweizerische Unfallversicherungsanstalt) is the biggest accident insurance provider in Switzerland. The independent public sector enterprise is headquartered in Lucerne and insures around two million employees against occupational accidents, occupational diseases, and leisure accidents. Self-employed persons can also insure themselves against the impact of accidents with the insurance for entrepreneurs.

The Challenge

Suva is already well covered in terms of software lifecycle management (SLM). The insurance company has internal license management and many years of expertise in SLM. Previously, it received technical support from the Swiss Brainwaregroup’s 'Spider' tool. However, support for Spider would eventually be discontinued due to the acquisition by the US software provider Flexera. For this reason, a new tool would be needed in the future to support and improve IT asset management and contract management.

The Solution

Suva decided to implement Flexera’s 'FlexNet Manager' in the future in order to take advantage of the synergies emerging from the takeover. Migrations are often very complex and time-consuming. However, the project plan developed by SoftwareONE, which was specifically tailored to the insurance company’s needs,  helped the planned migration of the data to proceed quickly and smoothly.

In addition to the implementation of FlexNet Manager, the project plan included a stocktaking of the current situation as well as an inventory of the IT infrastructure and verification of compliance for Microsoft and Oracle licenses. Finally, all business data, such as licenses, contracts, and maintenance, were transferred to the new Flexera tool.

SoftwareONE continuously monitored the entire migration process, which substantially reduced the workload of Suva’s IT department. Imported templates and other elements were prepared for the new tool and the data quality was consistently checked and optimized.

Benefits and Outcomes

  • By generating a complete inventory list including all clients and servers, compliance can be calculated in the new tool, providing Suva with a new level of transparency and control
  • Overview of the entire software portfolio enables optimal and cost-effective software allocation to clients according to their user profiles
  • Measurement of actual software use in the company reveals further cost-saving potentials
  • Risk management for software compliance
  • Improved transparency opens up new opportunities for goal oriented tactical and strategic decisions in the SLM sector
