Microsoft Ignite is always a key highlight in the tech calendar, and this year's event was no exception. The company showcased a wide range of new products and features, but the overarching theme was clear: AI is the future.

As always, SoftwareOne was excited to attend as a key Microsoft partner and one that is committed to enabling clients to reap the rewards of using AI to drive business transformation. Here are some of our learnings and key takeaways from Microsoft Ignite 2023.

AI is the age of Copilots

Microsoft CEO, Satya Nadella, kicked off the event with a keynote address that focused on the company's vision for the "age of Copilots". This vision is based on the idea that AI can be used to automate many of the tasks that are currently done by humans, freeing up our time to focus on more creative and strategic work.

Nadella announced several new AI-powered products and features, including:

Microsoft Copilot Studio

A powerful tool that empowers organizations to build and manage custom AI-powered applications. Copilot Studio enables the creation of tailored GPTs, plugins, and workflows, providing businesses with the flexibility to integrate AI into their unique workflows and processes.

The potential of Copilot Studio is immense extending to areas such as expense management, HR onboarding, and beyond.

MESH for Teams

Arriving in January 2024, this will enable users to use avatars to express themselves with confidence, whether they’re joining a 2D Teams meeting or a 3D immersive space. With Immersive Spaces, users can connect in new ways and bring discussions all into one place.

With spatial audio, for example, they can experience directionality and proximity, just like in the real world. In custom spaces, you can create a place tailored to your specific needs. This brings Bing Chat and Bing Chats Enterprise under the Copilot umbrella.

SharePoint Premium

Feted for launch in the second half of 2024, SharePoint Premium is an advanced content management and experiences platform that utilizes AI, automation, and enhanced security to streamline content management, processing, and governance.

It facilitates engagement with critical content throughout its lifecycle, ensuring its freshness, searchability, and collaborative accessibility across various file types. SharePoint Premium optimizes critical business document processes, including contracts, invoices, and SOWs, by leveraging AI, security, and workflow automation. Additionally, it streamlines content organization by employing AI-driven automation to build, classify, and tag documents.

Microsoft and NVIDIA partner on AI chips

One of the highlights of the event was a joint appearance by Nadella and Jensen Huang, CEO of NVIDIA. The two companies announced that they are partnering on the development of new AI chips. This partnership is a significant step forward for both companies, and it is likely to have a major impact on the future of AI.
