SoftwareOne case study
International SOS

SoftwareOne (formerly Crayon) helps leading health and security services company optimise IT consumption and gain significant returns in IT investments.
Key business challenges
As a global organisation with multiple offices across regions, International SOS required their IT and software estate to be agile, optimised and aligned to ever-changing business requirements. It was also key to ensure that systems were secure, up to date and optimised for all employees, including remote workers who frequently move across various sites.
However, International SOS’s IT infrastructure was in need of an update in order to maximise current resources and modernise existing systems. The end-user team needed greater clarity in rolling out new systems and going about their Microsoft Enterprise Agreement (EA) renewal for the three-year licence requirement.
Engagement objectives
Through partnership with SoftwareOne and its licencing experts, International SOS sought to enhance its existing relationship with Microsoft and seamlessly roll out its global “Digital Workspace” initiative. This cloud-oriented initiative focuses on cloud adoption and the creation of an agile and dynamic IT infrastructure suitable for employees adapting to the new normal of working during a pandemic.
The following key engagement objectives were identified for International SOS:
- Lean alignment of licencing to business needs
- Maximise end-user adoption and satisfaction with Microsoft licencing & software benefits
- Consistent IT state built upon up-to-date software
- Alignment with compliance strategy
- Secure systems with minimised risk of breaches

Besides assessing our existing systems, SoftwareOne also addressed underlying challenges we faced with our IT infrastructure to ensure changes were implemented based on what we needed as an organisation.
Solutions implemented
SoftwareOne delivered an end-to-end infrastructure optimisation solution, which was developed based on an understanding of existing solution infrastructure and cloud roll-out objectives. A comprehensive assessment of International SOS's IT estate, including virtual and physical servers, AD and end-user clients, was conducted prior to solution implementation.
Data-driven analytics from the assessment were used to identify and recommend the following services, which were aligned to International SOS’s business needs, and minimised mis-licencing and overspending.
Microsoft licence baseline
Review of software estate based on existing entitlements and deployments to identify opportunities for improvement.
Microsoft licence optimisation
Cost savings realization on existing Microsoft Licences via an optimised contract structure with the support of SoftwareOne's licencing experts.
Microsoft EA renewal scenario
Optimisation of Microsoft Enterprise Agreement Renewal process through strategic consideration of various discounts, services and add-on costs to maximise potential ROI.
Global and digital real-time software procurement through Cloud IQ
Establishment of a customised, globally unified and fully digital procurement framework for Microsoft Cloud Solution based on SoftwareOne's proprietary Cloud-iQ platform.
Additionally, outdated versions of software were identified and removed, and new services such as Microsoft Teams were also introduced to further streamline International SOS’s workflows. With new infrastructure and processes in place, International SOS is now better-equipped to carry out their cloud cost optimisation strategy moving forward.
With SoftwareOne's solutions and advisory, we were able to transform and modernise our systems, saving costs while enjoying better and faster systems.
Project results
- Six-figure cost savings through licence optimisation
- Multiple servers optimised through removal, replacement or movement to Microsoft Azure
