“It’s an honor to help open doors for other women in tech”

Melanie Nash, Senior Client Executive at SoftwareOne Denmark, has been appointed as a judge for this year’s Nordic Women in Tech Awards, taking place in Helsinki this October. Following her appointment, we spoke with Melanie about her involvement in Women in Tech and her perspective on the future of women in the tech industry.

Congratulations on your appointment! How does it feel to be a judge at NWiTA 2025?

Thank you! It feels amazing! I’m both proud and humbled by the opportunity to help promote women in tech.

I’ve spent a long time spreading the word that tech is an amazing field for women, not only do women belong in tech – they thrive in it – and it’s an honor to help open doors for other women in tech. Many still think tech is a male-dominated field, but there are so many exciting opportunities for women, and I truly believe the best results in tech come from the intersection of genders.

What are you most looking forward to in your role as a judge?

Celebrating the nominees. Just being nominated brings visibility, recognition, and networking opportunities –things that can open doors even if you don’t win. The field is incredibly strong, and they all deserve an award. Some of these women have created truly impressive solutions.

What drives your engagement in Women in Tech?

It stems from my work with ESG, particularly the “S” – social responsibility – which is close to my heart. I chose to focus on women in IT because it’s an area I know well, and I share my own journey to inspire other women to take the leap into tech.

When I started in the industry, there weren’t many women, and those who were there didn’t always support each other. Thankfully, that has changed, and I want to help drive that positive development.

That’s why I’ve been involved in SoftwareOne’s Women in Tech initiatives in Norway, Denmark, and Iceland, and I’ve recently signed up as a mentor for women in IT with refugee backgrounds. I’m really looking forward to supporting them. It’s incredibly rewarding. I give something, but I also get a lot of inspiration in return.

What motivated you to pursue a career in tech?

I’ve always been passionate about finding solutions – making things work and making everyday life easier through technology. That’s what led me into IT. I’ve been fortunate to have leaders who believed in me and trusted me with major projects.

Today, I work with top-tier clients as an advisor and sparring partner. I help them mature their IT landscapes and create synergies by connecting them with others facing similar challenges.

I combine technical understanding with my ability to read a room and navigate political landscapes. Empathy and relationships are key, and I believe being a woman is an advantage here.

How do you see the future of inclusion and diversity in the IT industry?

I’m very optimistic. The new generation has a completely different mindset. They don’t see gender as a barrier, at least not in the Nordics. It’s inspiring to talk to young people about equality – for many, it’s a given. Globally we’re not there yet, but the Nordics can be a beacon, also through initiatives like NWiTA.
