Copilot Business, Copilot Chat, M365 Copilot – what’s the difference?
We know the different “Copilots” might make things confusing, so let’s break it down.
Microsoft 365 Copilot, or M365 Copilot is an enterprise-grade AI deeply integrated into Microsoft 365 apps, such as Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams. Available since 2023, it can generate documents, analyse spreadsheets, summarize meetings, and draft emails grounded in organisational data.
Users can also create and use agents via Copilot Studio. It uses Microsoft Graph to securely access company files, emails, and calendars while delivering enterprise-grade security, privacy, and compliance. M365 Copilot is best for larger organisations or professionals who need AI woven into daily workflows across Microsoft 365.
Copilot Chat is the free standalone conversational app available on Windows, web, and mobile. A secure web-grounded AI chat powered by the latest large language models, it can assist with writing, brainstorming, and summarising.
Copilot Chat is accessible in selected M365 apps and can be connected to your personal data source (such as OneDrive or Gmail). Copilot Chat is for
anyone who wants a free and versatile conversational AI assistant, and creating agents is priced at a metreed basis.
Copilot Business is built on the same foundation as M365 Copilot, tailored for small and medium-sized businesses that want AI productivity tools at accessible pricing.
It integrates Copilot Chat with business-focused features, connecting tools such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams while protecting your data. Copilot Business is for SMEs with up to 300 users who want to start using AI in their workflows.
