Basler Insurance reduces risks and avoids significant costs through Software Lifecycle Management

Basler Insurance AG includes Basler Insurance and Baloise Bank SoBa, which together act as a focused financial service provider, combining insurance and banking. They are a leading provider in Switzerland of integrated solutions for insurance, retirement planning, and wealth management for private customers as well as small and medium-sized enterprises.

The Challenge

With the increasing use of both on-premises and cloud products, the complexity of Basler Insurance AG's IT environment grew significantly. To avoid unnecessary consumption and maintain compliance across the different IT environments, the insurance company needed to optimise its software asset management and was looking for a flexible and experienced partner with a holistic approach to the company-wide management and control of all software and cloud investments, from request and procurement to implementation, management, and retirement. Basler Insurance AG had the ambitious goal of further developing its existing software asset management to meet new requirements and ensuring support for the various national subsidiaries of the Basler Insurance Group in integrating the new SLM approach.

The Solution

Due to the very good partnership from previous Software Asset Management projects, Basler Insurance AG decided to go with SoftwareOne's software lifecycle approach and the managed service SLMAdvanced. The first step for the new managed service was the integration of FlexNet Manager from Flexera. This allowed the scope of data collection and analysis to be expanded from six to 40 vendors. In the second step, a company-wide SAM governance framework was introduced, which helped ensure that the various national subsidiaries could implement uniform SLM processes, roles, and a functioning control system.

With the introduction of PyraCloud, a Software-as-a-Service platform from SoftwareOne, Basler Insurance has access to a portal to centrally process and manage the entitlements. Additionally, with the PyraCloud module "Cloud Spend Management," cloud expenditures can be centrally monitored and managed, which in turn enables cost optimisation.
