As goes with most fast-expanding organizations – especially by mergers and acquisitions – it’s a challenging task to get a full grasp of the company's IT environment as a whole.

Adding to that, ESAS’ IT Management is under constant pressure to finish a wide array of projects driven by the business, which leaves little time to keep focussing on getting the existing environment under control.

“We were very curious about what would be uncovered if we went looking for rogue software, as it could entail major repercussions on a financial, security and strategic level", said Tom Van der Aa, IT Manager at ESAS.

Being understaffed, yet understanding the importance of having transparency in its software estate, ESAS was interested in SoftwareONE’s Portfolio Management Platform. “The thorough inventory tool combined with the expertise of SoftwareONE’s people is what convinced us. We were looking for a partner to accompany us in regaining control and we are very happy to have found him”, said Tom Van der Aa.

Portfolio Management Platform will be running at ESAS for 3 years, including regular consultative meetings with SoftwareONE’s specialists. These meetings form the basis for more extensive projects to further protect and manage ESAS’ IT environment.

A thorough scan of ESAS’ 200+ devices uncovered 381 different vendors and 981 different software products

During their first meeting, SoftwareONE addressed out-of-support and end-of-life software, patching levels, free for non-commercial use and suspicious software – All of which is pointed at elevating security levels and mitigating compliance risks.

The other side of the project is largely based on software usage and possible cost savings. Lots of different vendors were discovered, allowing ESAS to consolidate to 1 or 2 preferred vendors per software category. As less vendors means less redundancy, this led to considerable cost savings.
