Adobe DC: New Features for Efficient Workflows and Mobile

Adobe has used the 2019 Fall update to integrate a whole stack of new features in Acrobat and its Document Cloud, enabling you to drive changes with a consistent switch from manual, paper-based processes to 100% digital. The focus is on improved collaboration, mobile working and e-mail volume efficiency through leaner workflows, supported by cloud-based services and machine learning. This article takes a closer look at the new features available.

The New Revision Feature - Reduce Approval Cycles

Adobe is introducing leaner content review processes with one of the most important new features for Acrobat DC. Any number of people can now share, edit and approve documents. Track who has read, edited, or commented content across multiple devices.

If questions arise during the reading or editing process, @mentions is an easy way to enrich documents with comments. Acrobat immediately sends invites to the relevant users and enables simultaneous, real-time document editing. Automatic reminders ensure that you will always obtain the necessary approvals in good time.

This eliminates countless e-mails and approval cycles throughout the entire process. There is only one central copy of documents, instead of endless versions with varying review statuses, significantly improving the workflow and minimizing errors.

The New Start Screen – Keep a Clearer Overview of Important Approvals

A completely redesigned start screen has been integrated within the desktop version of Acrobat DC, the Acrobat Reader Mobile App and the brand-new Web App within the Document Cloud. It acts as the nexus for all activities relating to PDF documents and provides a neat overview of status updates for incoming and outgoing tasks. For instance, you can see the shared documents that were sent to you for review or that require a signature. This way you can keep a close eye on critical approvals and respond wherever you happen to be – by checking a report on your smartphone, editing a suggestion on your tablet or by adding comments to a presentation in your browser.

The new home screen also lets you keep important files close at hand, simply by marking them with an asterisk and bookmarking them. This also works in other applications such as email and photos. Favorites stored in the Document Cloud are easy to find and available on all devices. In addition, you can now search the contents of multiple PDF files within the Document Cloud

Smart Scanning and Completion of Forms

Adobe Scan is a quick and easy tool to scan business cards and transfer them automatically to your address book. Automatic detection is now available in five new languages: French, German, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish. The artificial intelligence behind Adobe Sensei detects contact information such as name, e-mail, and phone number. You can also scan and recognize multiple business cards in one go using the create contact function.

Adobe Sensei also enables recognition of form fields on your paper documents as  quick and easy option to complete and sign forms in Acrobat DC desktop, Acrobat Reader Mobile and in the Document Cloud Web App. Field type, size and position are analyzed so that users can easily tap content and enter text without any manual alignment or selection of new tools.

At the same time, you can use the new cleanup tool in Adobe Scan to beautify your PDFs, removing creases, wrinkles, dirt or stains. Like Photoshop or Lightroom, it removes blemishes and polishes the background to pure white.

Editing and Signing on Mobile Devices

With the new versions, Adobe is also making mobile use even more intuitive. The same powerful PDF editing features included in the desktop version are available for iOS or Android devices as well. Users can change, format and edit text, as well as adding, rotating and resizing images within a PDF – all at the flick of a finger.

Electronic signing with Adobe Sign is also integrated directly within the new Acrobat DC and Acrobat Reader. In addition, you can send documents from Acrobat for other people to sign, without leaving the application. Users can also add and edit text in a form and in a form field and include one or more signatories to complete your contract with breaking sweat.

Other New Features

It is now easier than ever before to downsize a bloated file or protect information from prying eyes. Password protection and document compression are just one click away, without scrolling through menus or switching tools. Improvements have also been added to the dark mode. Screen elements like scroll bars, menus and comment windows now appear in the dark theme as well, just like other parts of the user interface.

Availability

The new features and services within Adobe Acrobat DC are available immediately to users with an Acrobat DC subscription. Adobe Creative Cloud customers who subscribe to the All Apps plan will also receive Adobe Acrobat DC. Updates for Adobe Scan, Acrobat Reader and Adobe Sign are also available.
