Connectivity, communication, collaboration, inspiration, innovation, and speed are key words of the future. How can we as a company prepare students for tomorrow’s challenges and help them become a new generation of motivated, tech-savvy people who will redefine how we live and work by creating a just and more sustainable future?
Our world is moving faster and becoming more global, mobile, agile, and digitized. To make the most out of these trends, organizations need to take a more strategic and proactive approach to how they design and organize the jobs of the future and become active in fostering the creation of new jobs by initiating and supporting change.
We have launched in Leipzig, Germany, TechTeens—an initiative that aims to inspire students and offer them knowledge and insights in the realms of digitization. With Leipzig’s mayor Burkhard Jung as a patron, the project has just started as a pilot experiment with ninety ninth-grade teenagers from six grammar schools and is supported by more than fifty of our employees at SoftwareONE – IT experts, software engineers, and programmers, among others.
They are mentors who share their know-how and expertise with the students weekly for the entire school year. During the fall break, we organize a TechCamp, and every student will be provided with a brand-new notebook. Ten of the most dedicated TechTeens will be invited to a trip to Silicon Valley, where they can explore the latest digital trends and developments from tech giants, like our partner Microsoft.
We want not just to provide students with a first look into the digitized world but also to teach them the values that are needed in tomorrow’s digital business world. Perseverance is one of them, along with love for what you do. Work is life; life is work. When work is something you are passionate about, the question is not «work or life?» It’s just life.
