Lawrence Schwartz, CMO at SoftwareONE, recently published a top of mind article for all of us – “The Need for Agile IT Drives Changes in the Cloud.” The article, published in VMblog.com, takes a look at three predictions for 2018 in relation to the cloud and how it impacts an organization’s overall IT strategy moving forward.
How will the cloud impact organizations in 2018?
Schwartz took a look at three key areas:
- SaaS maturity drives governance – as SaaS applications continue to pervade the IT landscape it will change how companies manage and govern these applications. Some SaaS applications are enterprise-wide while others are at the individual level – this brings a new level of complexity to governance, and organizations will likely turn to a single provider to help manage these differences in a secure manner.
- Cloud deployment strategies will continue to evolve – and with that we also know cloud isn’t going anywhere. Within cloud there are four key trends occurring: hyperconvergence, Network Functions Virtualization (NFV), shadow IT (and the related spend on it), and the management, automation and security of microservices.
- Employee training will be integral to adopting emerging technologies – last but not least your employees – the folks that make your organization work. In the “good old days” employee training happened annually, but with cloud computing new technologies and processes are occurring in real-time, all the time. This means employee training also needs to happen on a more constant cycle in order to maintain security, levels of efficiency, and employee buy-in and understanding regarding the latest technology.
The year ahead is sure to be an interesting one and these predictions are just the tip of the iceberg. To learn more about SoftwareONE visit us today.
