What’s been happening in the tech and vendor world in April? We compiled the latest vendor news and trending topics of the past month. It takes just a few minutes to be up to date.

Vendor news

Microsoft Azure Space technologies advance digital transformation across US government agencies. By implementing new commercial technologies, such as Microsoft 365, Azure Government Cloud, and Azure Orbital, government agencies are increasing the speed, flexibility, and agility of their missions – on and off the planet.

Microsoft and Epic Systems corporation - an American electronic health record (EHR) system provider- are expanding their strategic partnership with the integration of Azure OpenAI Service. This will enable healthcare organisations to host Epic System SaaS environments on Microsoft’s Azure cloud platform. This will increase productivity, improve patient care, and strengthen the financial integrity of health systems around the world.

AWS Control Tower is now available in 7 additional regions. Following this launch, AWS Control Tower is now available in 22 AWS Regions and 2 AWS GovCloud (US) regions. AWS Control Tower provides the easiest way to set up and govern a secure, multi-account AWS environment.

As it works towards running its data centres entirely on renewable energy and increase its footprint in Australia, AWS is investing $9 billion over the next five years.

For SAP HANA databases operating on Amazon EC2, AWS Backup now provides a quick, affordable, and application-consistent backup and restore option. AWS Backup for SAP HANA databases running on Amazon EC2 will be available in the AWS Regions where AWS Backup is offered.

AWS has announced the general availability of Amazon CodeWhisperer. This is a new artificial intelligence coding companion that provides real-time single-line or entire function code suggestions within an organisation’s development environment, increasing the speed at which new applications are developed.

Oracle strengthens commitment to southeast Asia with second cloud region in Singapore. This new region will help meet increasing demand for OCI services in Southeast Asia while addressing growing business continuity and compliance requirements.

Oracle and Zoom have joined forces to improve patients' access to online virtual care. This collaboration will enable healthcare organisations to deliver faster, easier, and more effective tele-health services.

Deloitte has announced the expansion of its operating system for health care to include implement, operate and advisory services for Oracle, a leading provider of operational and clinical technology for hospitals and health care systems worldwide.

IBM Cloud and Wasabi are partnering to power data insights across hybrid cloud environments. This collaboration will enable enterprises to run applications across any environment - on-premise or in the cloud and enable users to access and utilise core business data and analytics in real time.

To support enterprises as they enter the multi-cloud era, VMware is simplifying its partner-focused managed services. Organisations will one find it simpler to adopt, administer, and better secure multi-cloud settings.

Trend Micro has acquired Anlyz, a specialist in Security Operations Centre (SOC) solutions which helps organisations detect and respond to cyber-threats in real time. This will significantly expand Trend Micro’s portfolio of cyber-.security related services.

Tech news

Microsoft is developing its own artificial intelligence chip code-named "Athena" which will power the technology behind AI chatbots like ChatGPT. There are predictions that “Athena” will reduce Microsoft’s dependence on Nvidia which currently dominates the market.

This chip-making foray is to reduce costs, which Athena could possibly slash by a third in comparison to Nvidia and thus reduce Microsoft’s dependency on Nvidia.

Recent Microsoft Entra enhancements have been released which are designed to strengthen identity security and avoid cyber-security attacks, helping safeguard organisations and their IT estates. These include identity and access management (IAM) tools which provide a powerful additional layer of protection against identity-related cyber-attacks.

One of the biggest cloud migrations in the history of the consumer products sector was completed by Accenture and Microsoft for Unilever. The migration has helped Unilever – whose 400+ brands are used by 3.4 billion people daily – become a cloud-only enterprise.

Microsoft Edge features is now the first and only internet browser with an integrated AI image generator. Image Creator is now available to all Edge users around the world.

According to a new Study by IBM and The Consumer Goods Forum, Consumer goods companies are increasing their technology budgets by 34% to align sustainability with operational efficiency, driving growth as a result.

AWS Systems Manager Incident Manager now supports Microsoft Teams to help support and drive collaboration. The hyperscaler is extending support to three chat collaboration platforms, Amazon Chime, Slack, in addition to Microsoft Teams.

Oracle introduces new AI and automation capabilities to help customers optimise supply chain management. Oracle is introducing new capabilities across Oracle Fusion Cloud Applications Suite that help customers automate supply chain planning. This will increase operational efficiency and improve the accuracy of financial forecasting.

SAP is also investing heavily in AI with plans to embed ChatGPT in products as quarterly revenue beats estimates.

AWS has announced the launch of its global generative AI accelerator for startups. This is 10-week initiative designed to take the most promising generative AI startups around the globe to the next level and accelerate their growth.

IBM has announced plans to double down on its focus on AI. IBM and Moderna will explore Quantum Computing and Generative AI for mRNA science.

In a move to address public-sector cyber-security vulnerabilities and improve digital security levels, Google Cloud and the center for Internet Security, Inc. this week, launched the Google cloud alliance.

IDC & Gartner predictions and forecasts

This month, analyst firms IDC and Gartner have both published release findings which suggest that investment in IT continues to grow with more organisations moving to cloud-based technologies.
